The Communications Specialist will contribute to the design, development, and execution of communications activities to support QED’s global strategy, assisting in the development and maintenance of the company website and internal communications tools, support multimedia content development, drive the internal communication process and support the review, measurement and analytics of the company’s various digital platforms. S/he will also draft materials for internal and external release, including web copy.


External Communications

  • Support the design of text and visual content for QED’s corporate website, working under the direction of the Communications Manager and coordinating the implementation of that design with the other members of the communications team
  • Actively work with other business groups and practice leads to glean content and prepare dynamic and engaging stories for multimedia outreach (website, blog, social media, newsletters, print materials) for internal purposes, proposals delivered to potential clients and for reporting to current clients
  • Help develop and publish textual and visual content for QED's various social media platforms
  • Develop creative methods to showcase stories on QED’s impact in particular sectors, as well as news pieces covering QED’s participation in conferences or supporting local organizations
  • Plan multimedia campaigns around specific events (e.g. International Women’s Day) that enable QED to strategically show leadership, and prepare content accordingly
  • Maintain QED’s multimedia library and update it in response to changing market, technology or business developments.
  • Design, write content and circulate QED’s external newsletter to partners and stakeholders


Internal communications


  • Creatively manage the content of all internal communications.
  • Manage all internal communications creation and output. Responsible for content gathering, approval and dissemination, insuring consistent framing and branding of messages and insuring that staff is informed of all company initiatives
  • Introduce and implement new ideas to strengthen internal communication and engage staff members to become content champions
  • Prepare, execute and monitor completion of internal strategic communication plans
  • Manage content and design for QED's employee intranet portal and suggest ways to make it more engaging and informative.
  • Responsible for developing and obtaining approval on policy and guidance around internal communications initiatives
  • Take leadership role in the internal Knowledge Sharing Committee, helping coordinate bi-monthly learning sessions and brown bags giving staff the opportunity to learn from each other
  • Establish database for tracking project past performance data for multi-purpose use, and as a quick and easy data resource for creating infographics and data visualizationsEnsure that the internal communication strategy is consistent and reflects the organization’s strategic vision and branding and curate messaging to ensure organizational consistency in all aspects of internal communication including development, organizing and education.
  • Measure and present results of internal communication efforts.
  • Seek and suggest what information should be presented to employees and set timing of release to coordinate with company events or initiatives


Visual Assets Management


  • Build and develop a visual assets library to support and strengthen QED's communication
  • Take photos and videos when needed to enhance the visual assets library for both internal and external communication needs
  • Source images and videos from online photo banks for use and when needed 
  • Obtain and publish videos and photos from internal sourced for publication on company website and blogs


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related discipline
  • Minimum four years of experience working in a strategic communications role, including both internal and external communications, with preferably at least a year of that being in the development sector
  • A proactive self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; need strong ability to set priorities, solve problems, and be resourceful under pressure
  • Experience in e-mail and newsletter marketing, including campaign performance analysis
  • Experience in writing social media, short form and long form (article style) content
  • Website content management skills and experience
  • Experience in vendor management to sample and source print materials after design submission
  • Good photography skills. Film making and video editing skills will be an added advantage
  • Working knowledge of design softwares like Adobe Illustrator Suite, Canva, etc. will be an added advantage
  • Steadfast attention to detail and thorough review of work assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage and prioritize multiple initiatives to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
