The Information Designer will help lead the design and development of compelling and engaging data visualizations and infographics in collaboration with researchers, analysts, and designers. The Information Designer will develop clear visual solutions that organize data and information and incorporate multiple data sets into a cohesive and clear story for a variety of media (digital, mobile, print, power point) in support of QED teams. The Information Designer may create stand alone data solutions (e.g., individual charts and graphs) or as part of a larger infographic (e.g., multiple charts, graphs, and other visuals for a more holistic visual story). The Data Visualization/Information Designer’s responsibilities on a given project will range from being the lead designer to consulting with other creatives or other functions (for their data visualization specific needs). The Information Designer will be responsible for designing solutions in an efficient and effective manner that ensures that solutions meet QED’s and/or its clients’ brand standards.


Designing visual solutions for power point display, print and/or web and interactive:  Responsible for designing compelling, accurate, and engaging data visualizations that organize data and information and incorporate multiple data sets into a cohesive data story for a variety of media (digital, mobile, and print) and for all of the firm’s and their respective clients’ distribution channels.


Leads facilitation sessions with researchers, analysts and content developers: Works closely with firm SMEs, analysts and content creators to translate data into compelling visualizations. Responsible for in-person interviews with researchers, technical personnel and client SMEs to draw the story out of content creators and to collectively brainstorm solutions while being responsible for scheduling and project scope maintenance.

Develop and maintain data visualization templates: Works closely with production resources to update existing charts and graphs templates as well as to templatize new, repeatable data visualization solutions. Collaborates with production to ensure templates are current.


Perform user research to identify and organize the user needs


Iteratively design, critique, and adjust concepts for application and data visualization designs


Produce high fidelity mock-ups demonstrating a final solution


Document user needs and visual design specs for the implementation team


Work closely with the implementation team to ensure that final product effectively meets user needs



  • College degree and 3-5 years related work experience preferred
  • Experience working in international development and with related data
  • Experience in data entry and data cleaning as a precursor to many visualization tasks


  • Bachelor’s degree in design, data visualization, or information design
  • 3-5 years related work experience as a designer
  • Excellent data visualization and graphic design
  • Practice in UCD/HCD methodology and design patterns
  • Understanding of the different design affordances for data, information, and insight
  • Understanding of different design affordances for data visualization for analysis, for messaging, and for engagement.
  • Extremely facile with data visualization software (Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Office, Tableau, MS PowerBI, High Charts, D3)
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Outstanding analytical skills
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills, critical for presentation of ideas to internal and external clients
  • Outstanding visual design skills
  • Ability to listen to complex ideas and distill them into easy to understand concepts
  • Strong process—concept and refine designs through sketches, diagrams, wireframes, visual designs and interactive pieces
  • Takes direction well
  • Very motivated
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • College degree and 3 years of related work experience, or
  • Associate degree and 5 years related work experience, or

High School diploma/equivalent and 7 years related work experience
